Water Pump

This group project was done for my Mechanical Synthesis class and best illustrates my personal initiative. I convinced my group to pursue a centrifugal pump during our preliminary design phase. This type of pump had not been seen in class the past few years as most students deemed it too difficult with the constraints we were given (such has our budget, number of parts that could be CNC’d or laser cut). I saw these challenges and was confident that they could be solved. Consequently, I became lead designer. I decided on the final assembly, gearing ratio, impeller size, and seal selection, along with most manufacturing methods. Unfortunately, we did not get to fabricate the pump due to Covid-19. This was a huge disappointment to myself and the group, as we were confident the pump would exceed our initial expectations.
