My final design project was the steering shaft and column for our four wheel steer system. This project allowed me to further develop my design, analysis, and real world testing and validation abilities. I employed a MATLAB script to plot shaft geometry against steer angle slop and steer angle deflection. This ensured the steering system would meet the desired design criteria while also being as light as possible. My shafts saw a 67% reduction in mass and a vastly simplified instillation process.
