Team Lead
My senior year I was team lead along with Brady Barnett and Miriam Levesque. Together we managed 40 students across 5 different sub-teams. This was the most significant responsibility that I’ve ever had, but I welcomed the challenge. At first I found that managing people and their projects was harder than solving the engineering challenges we faced. I did not expect this, but I learned to prioritize these issues and saw marked improvements in overall team performance as a result.
One of the most rewarding parts of being lead was helping younger members. As the primary welder I had welding schools to teach basic techniques to those who were interested. In addition to this I taught ‘schools’ on engineering concepts like GD&T to help improve their fundamental engineering skills. It was incredibly rewarding to watch younger members grow as engineers, and I know that they will continue to be a competitive Baja team long after I am gone.
